Is your period the secret to better productivity?

Maximize your energy by syncing your cycle

Layering your daily energy cycle with your monthly rhythm creates a powerful framework for holistic productivity.

- Miranda Merten
I’m talking menstruation today, if you don’t menstruate you can skip this one, or you might find some useful information to understand your partner better.

I can feel my energy mellowing out already.

A few days ago, I was on fire—last week, I even created an entire new product (available for you on Monday!). But now, I’m starting to feel a bit foggy and introspective. If I checked my calendar, I could tell you exactly why.

You might be wondering if it’s really a thing.

Cyclical productivity.

Sounds odd?

Right now, I’m deep in my luteal phase, and let me tell you—it’s definitely hitting me. Last week, I was riding high on that follicular energy, brainstorming and coming up with more ideas than I could actually implement. Fast forward to today, and it’s a totally different story. My energy is dipping, I’m easily distracted, and honestly, all I want to do is curl up with a cozy blanket and a cup of tea (and hey, it’s Friday, so that’s not helping either).

I’ve been talking a lot about energy management lately, but usually in terms of your daily ups and downs. Here’s the thing—women also run on a monthly cycle, and if you pay attention to it, you’ll definitely start to notice patterns.

Most of us aren’t used to thinking about productivity in terms of our menstrual cycles. We’re taught to push through, no matter what our bodies are telling us. But if you’ve noticed your energy levels changing throughout the month, it’s not just in your head—it’s your body’s natural rhythm. Syncing your tasks with these phases can be a game-changer.

If you’re not completely familiar with the phases of your cycle, here’s a quick breakdown:

In simple terms, you’re going to go through 4 seasons in one single month:

  • Menstrual Phase (Days 1-7): Winter Vibes

This is when your period begins, typically lasting three to seven days. Your hormone levels are at their lowest, which can leave you feeling low-energy. Think of this as your 'winter' phase—perfect for reflective tasks. Focus on evaluation, planning, and introspection. Since your energy is lower, stick to lighter tasks and avoid high-stakes decisions.

  • Follicular Phase (Days 8-14): Spring Energy

After your period ends, the follicular phase kicks in and lasts about a week. It’s the 'spring' of your cycle—you’re refreshed and motivated. This is the perfect time to start new projects, brainstorm, and set new goals. Use this high-energy period to tackle your most challenging tasks.

  • Ovulatory Phase (Days 15-17): Hot Girl Summer

Ovulation lasts three to five days and is the 'summer' phase of your cycle. It’s ideal for outward-facing tasks. Maximize this time by scheduling social activities, meetings, or negotiations. Your natural confidence is at its peak—use it to your advantage.

  • Luteal Phase (Days 18-28): Autumn Calm

As your energy starts to decline, focus on wrapping up projects, doing detail-oriented work, and planning for the next cycle. Think of this phase as your 'autumn.' It’s time to wind down. Make space for self-care and adjust to shorter work periods.

I want you to put this to the test.

The first thing you’ll need to do is figure out what part of your cycle you are currently in. You’ll monitor how you’re feeling for the next few days and see if any of this tracks.

In this week’s podcast episode, I dive deeper into this topic and guide you on how to layer your monthly cycle with your daily energy.

It’s a big episode, so grab a journal—you’ll want to take notes!
