Isn’t this why you started your business?

Simplicity boils down to two steps: Identify the essential. Eliminate the rest.

Happy New Year!
I’m back and I hope your holiday and start of 2024 has been wonderful. I had quite the time the last few weeks. My grandmother passed away on Christmas morning, and I just returned from a trip to the British Virgin Islands to attend her funeral.
It’s just like her to go out in a way that we’d all remember her. Not only was it Christmas, but next month would have been her 90th birthday. It’s been a busy and emotional few weeks but I am at peace now and ready to dive in to the new year.
Let's get into it...
🖥️ Are VIP Days a part of your 2024 offerings?
One thing I realized as I was running around traveling the last few weeks, is that if I didn’t run my business the way I do, then it would be difficult for me to drop everything, put on my out of office, and say “Hey, I’m out of the country for a few days!”
Being a service provider means playing a game of balance between delivering transformative client work and not burning out in the process. 😅
Offering ongoing services, retainers, and longer project-based work means that you’re:
Lugging your laptop with you wherever you go in case of a (gulp!) client emergency
Spending hours and hours on proposals that never get seen
Juggling multiple clients per day and struggling to keep focus
Struggling to work on your business while also completing client deliverables
But just like I did, you probably started a business so you could have more time, freedom, flexibility, and control…
…not so that you could be chained to Slack at 10:39pm on a Thursday night because you’re waiting for a client in a different timezone to give you access to a Google Sheet you need before your deadline, which you kinda already missed. 🙈
Seriously… since when did late nights become the norm and ‘scope creep’ become your new middle name?!
Thinking back, it all makes sense. You get your first client and, of course, you want to go above and beyond for them. So, you work the extra hours and do those odd jobs that aren’t in your contract. Zero problems, right?
Until you just can’t stop.
You did it for one client so it only makes sense to keep delivering the best you possibly can for every single client that comes your way.
You’re a magical service provider, but you’re burning yourself out.
And all of this is just client delivery—don’t even get me started on marketing your services. That’s a whole other bucket of overwhelm!
In the game of balance I mentioned earlier, you have to carefully weigh up client delivery with your energy levels, client expectations with your boundaries, and client delight with your time.
In order to get that balance just right, I have a suggestion for you…

☕️ Is it procrastination or boredom?
Procrastination can sometimes be a result of boredom or a lack of interest. Inject novelty and challenge into your tasks to make them more engaging. Experiment with different approaches, add an element of competition, or try to find an unconventional angle that piques your curiosity. Focus To-Do is a task app I’ve been using to organize my workday. I am someone who needs a little more ‘gamification’ when it comes to getting things done (I get bored easily, I’m self-aware), and I have been loving it so much. It has pomodoros, daily streaks, you collect sunshine to grow a little tree. And it has a free version but it’s only $11.99 one time if you want to upgrade for all features (if I can pay one time for something, all the better).
❤️🔥 Hot finds this week

🎙️ Which time management roadblock is your kryptonite?
One of my favorite episodes I did was talking about Time Management Roadblocks. Basically, how they manifest (identify them) and how to work around them. Listen to the episode or read the blog post: Which time management roadblock is your kryptonite?
